Formerly from the east coast of New Jersey, Glenn Murgacz is best known for his work with steel and copper. He often draws inspiration from the works of Picasso and Giacometti. Murgacz is most fascinated by the human form in organic, ethereal and primitive representations.
As an abstract expressionist, his works are surprising, provocative and unpredictable. Pieces have been as diverse in size as in style, ranging from delicate dancers and woodland faeries, to massive keg toting beer gods and spear bearing warriors. Most sculptural pieces are designed to work in outdoor environments with the intention to weather with the elements. Additionally, his portfolio includes water color, oil and acrylic paintings as well as linocut print work.
Murgacz was well known in his New Jersey home town for several pieces, particularly four large stainless steel sports figures affixed to the facade of Woodbridge Community Center, work with local Montessori School students in collaborative sculpture projects, welding work with high school art students, a permanent installation in the local performing arts center, and exhibits, workshops and welding demonstrations at the Barron Arts Center in Woodbridge, NJ. Murgacz’ works exist in several private collections as well.
Educated at Middlesex College and Fairleigh Dickenson University, Murgacz is an autodidact artist with a passion for creating monumental sculptures for community and natural open spaces.
